Very Rare...

I have a 62 year old Aunt that was just recently diagnosed within the last few weeks with CF. VERY and EXTREMELY RARE! We are all in shock!! She has undergone 2 sweat tests and a blood test to confirm the diagnosis. She has no pancreatic deficiency that we know of. She's also been a smoker for most of her life. It's amazing that she is still alive. I don't think the doctors are really going to do anything different for her except treat her lung infections now with IV antibiotics. My entire extended family is in shock. There have been only a few people in my family who have actually been tested to see if they have the CF gene. I imagine now, that number might increase a bit. I still don't know what to think....as we've never been able to trace CF back among the family line.

How can one get a LIVING donor lung transplant? How does the donor live without their lungs? Please explain! Thanks!
